Following weeks of suspense, plots and sabotage, Celebrity Traitors concludes with a nail-biting end
Warning: spoilers ahead - This article discloses details from Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Over the course of the show, viewers witnessed murders, betrayals, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that pierced all tension.
However on the final evening, the final winner of the inaugural Celebrity Traitors emerged triumphant.
From 19 contestants, only five remained: Traitors and faithfuls facing off for the winnings.
Before long, the competition tightened to only three contenders: the final players.
In the end, funny man Alan Carr was crowned the winner, in a shocking outcome that broke the internet and made him tearful.
"This has been destroying me, my apologies," he exclaimed, admitting to the remaining faithfuls that he'd always been a traitor. "I'm an awful human being."
"You played amazingly," they comforted him. "It's all right."
Online platforms quickly erupted with the news. "The worst deceiver being the best traitor ever," commented one user.
"It couldn't have been a more iconic ending," stated a different person, while someone else described it as "the TV moment of the year."
His chosen charity, a cancer charity, gets to keep all the prize money, with the total amount reaching £87,500.
The comedian's evolution from comic relief to strategic player was one of the standout highlights of the series.
However, his victory still shocked viewers in shock, according to entertainment reporters.
"The thought of him, of all people, executing a masterclass in deceit felt about as likely as him maintaining composure through his comedy routines."
During follow-up conversations, the other contestants summed up the reasons nobody had ever really suspected him.
"He might have come down to the morning meal in traitor attire and I still wouldn't have thought he was a traitor. I was too busy laughing," a player said.
"The majority didn't vote for him because how does one eliminate someone who is so loveable?" asked a different contestant.
The winner stated he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his experience with the show.
"I'd like to participate once more... I doubt it would work a second time!"
The final installment was lengthened to over an hour on the network. It had a different start than typical episodes, as all the celebs were aware who'd make it at the breakfast table.
There was particularly inspiring, and very un-Traitors-esque soundtrack, as the episode revisited some moments from every remaining player's experience in the game.
As ever, the comedian provided unforgettable quotes.
"Let's face it, I began this game as something of a nervous wreck. I've thrown close allies under the bus, I've eliminated national treasures openly. I'm clearly a better liar and player than I believed."
Meanwhile, a different player commented that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than playing for a national team", while someone else said he was "totally surprised" to have made it so far.
In the beginning of the finale, various contestants seemed to be attempting to become the fashion standout of the competition, replacing the previously eliminated style leader.
Carr emerged at the morning meal looking like a 1950s US chat show host in a checked maroon suit, later switching into an embellished light-colored outfit.
However, he got out-jacketted by another contestant's maroon velvet tuxedo. Impressive style.
Following this was the competition, with the remaining contestants getting on board a train named - of course - The Deceivers' Railway.
This task saw them ripping up portraits of eliminated players. Spare a thought for a player who was hit on the head THREE times by the cover of a substantial container.
Before long, the moment arrived for the elimination discussion.
Two traitors made a pact in advance, pledging to stick together. "We've come a long way, I won't throw him under a bus," said one, while the other just giggled.
However, one did stick to his promise. But, having slipped under the radar for the majority of the competition, the other still got the most votes.
The remaining traitor looked like to be experiencing a world of pain to be the last traitor standing. "Now I'm on my own, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, without direction."
Online platforms and viewers were equally disappointed.
"I hoped against this contestant to be banished. A truly loveable traitor," commented a commentator.
"You will forever be remembered in Traitors history," posted another user.
However, there remained little opportunity to dwell on this departure. Before long, they were at the final stage - which was the moment everyone anticipated.
The last players stood over the fire pit. Meanwhile, the partnership collapsed, precisely when it mattered the most, in an absolutely shocking development.
A player was eliminated in dramatic fashion - following a surprising decision from their ally, who betrayed them.
"This pains me to be betrayed at the final moment in that manner," said the eliminated player. Subsequently, we learned that when they message, the eliminated contestant calls their former ally as a traitor.
Finally, only three contestants were still competing: the final trio.
A contestant, appearing quite pleased, voted to end the game. The same decision was made by another, and everything depended on the third, who made the identical choice - which meant that the traitor was the winner.
According to commentators, the moment where remaining contestants consoled the champion was "beautiful TV". "I predict it could be in the running for outstanding scene at television honors," they commented.
Fortunately, the winner soon recovered from his bout of tears, and could finally appreciate his victory.
"What a rollercoaster. I thought I was terrible at deception, my expressions gave me away and now I stand the champion," he said.
He also joked about that infamous murder - his best friend in an early episode - by reaching over the presenter in the concluding moments and making contact.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The last few weeks of famous people scheming, plotting and sometimes surprising incidents may feel like a bizarre fantasy. But it really did occur. It will be remembered fondly.
